Learning Networks - An Introduction
The Primary Strategy is now beginning a programme to support networks of primary schools with the intention that, by 2008, the majority of schools will have the opportunity to be part of an effective network that supports good teaching and improves pupil learning. In the implementation of this programme, the Primary Strategy is working in partnership with the National College for School Leadership and the DfES Innovation Unit.
It is the aim that networks will work together to:
- raise standards in literacy and mathematics;
- and increase the capacity of schools to deliver a rich, broad curriculum.
The focus of networks to achieve these outcomes will be on strengthening pupil learning and implementing effective CPD programmes. Opportunities for staff should focus on improving teachers’ classroom practice, enriching curriculum provision and raising the attainment of particular groups of pupils.
The expected outcomes are that better teaching and learning driven by the network activity will lead to improvements in English and mathematics as measured by teacher assessment and National Curriculum tests.
