This area of the site provides information and resources for primary schools that are part of the Intensified Support Programme and also for other schools who wish to use some of these resources.

What is the Intensifying Support Programme (ISP)?

The Intensified Support Programme is a school improvement programme desigend to raise standards and improve teaching and learning in the context of the school as a professional learning community. The programme was set up to work in parthership with the LEA advisers/inspectors and the school. It is based on the cycle of audit and setting targets, action and review.

Four key themes run through the programme. These are:

  • raising standards and accelerating progress;
  • improving the quality of teaching and learning;
  • improving the conditions for learning;
  • developing the school as a professional learning community.

The programme aims to draw together exisiting good teaching and learning practice from across the LEA in order to maximise impact.

  • Raising Attainment Plans (RAPs) The RAP is the key instrument to link together, operationally, the areas of focus for the school's work against the four key themes for each term. The RAP and review process estabishes a termly cycle to identify targets and key actions to raise standards. It sets out monitoring procedures needed to determine whether the success criteria have been met in relation to the targets.
  • Professional Development meetings PDMs are scheduled to take place each half term. The key elements are a discussion by all staff on pupil progress, the setting and layering of curricular targets and the development of good practice in various aspects of teaching and learning

  • Reources for co-ordinators
    • These resources are available for co-ordinators to tailor to meet the professional development needs of staff in their schools.
