Teacher Assessment - Unit Outcomes

QCA recommend that one way of assessing ICT is to use the unit outcomes.  Learning outcomes are given for each of the tasks (setting the scene, short focused and integrated) in the QCA teaching units.

The main purpose of these recording forms is to provide teachers with a form of summative end of unit assessment on pupils achievement and progress.

The forms are designed to provide an ongoing record of achievement in ICT through the primary school years.  They should enable teachers to identify progress and development needs.  The records will also be a useful tool in helping teachers to determine pupils’ level of ICT capability at the end of the year, if viewed alongside appropriate evidence in the form of samples of children’s work. 

Pupils could also take them on with them to their next school, as a record of what they have learned. 

The recording forms are based on the units of the QCA scheme of work for ICT.  However, if schools are not making use of the QCA then the content can be modified to suit school needs, as appropriate.

 

Ways of using the forms

The record forms have been created in Microsoft Excel format to give increase functionality and the help schools move towards electronic assessment.  Each Year Group file contains a worksheet for the appropriate QCA units, i.e. Year 1 - Unit 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 1e, 1f.  On opening the file click on the first worksheet (E.g. Unit 1A) and type in the names of the pupils in your class.  These names will be automatically copied through to all the worksheets in the file.  As you are teaching the units of work look at the learning outcomes and assess pupils against these.  Simply tick or cross boxes to show what pupils have achieved.
